What is A2 milk, and why does it matter?
2026-05-20
A2 milk has become one of the most talked-about words in fresh dairy. At Agro Labs we make it every day, so here is a plain explanation of what it is — and what it is not.
What is A2 milk?
Milk contains a protein called beta-casein. In most ordinary milk, that protein comes as a mix of two types: A1 and A2. A2 milk comes from cows that naturally produce only the A2 type. That is the whole difference — A2 milk carries only the A2 beta-casein protein, nothing added and nothing taken away.
How is A2 milk different from regular milk?
Nutritionally the two are very similar — same calcium, same protein, same fresh-milk taste. The difference is the kind of beta-casein. Many people who find ordinary milk hard to digest tell us that A2 milk sits more easily for them. We share that honestly: it is a preference many of our customers have, not a medical promise.
Is A2 milk lactose-free?
No. A2 milk still contains lactose, so it is not suitable for anyone with a diagnosed lactose intolerance. A2 refers only to the beta-casein protein, not to lactose.
